San Antonio, TX - Former Haiti Men's National Team Head Coach, Jairo Rios Rendon, surprised the Trinity Men's Soccer team earlier this afternoon prior to training. Coach Rios was the head coach of the Haiti team that came to San Antonio last spring to play an exhibition match against the Tigers. It marked the first game for the Haitians since the devastating earthquake earlier this year. Fund-raising was carried out at the friendly, but spirited contest, played before 3,800 fans. Haiti beat the Tigers with two second-half goals, turning around a scoreless opening period.
Coach Rios had not prepared a speech but said he'd be honored to say a few words. After thanking the boys for their generosity for playing host to his former squad, Coach Rios spoke about what it takes to be a successful team. The boys listened attentively and were grateful for the advice. Coach Rios kept it short and simple but the message was clear. Play with pride and play with your heart. With these two things, all teams have the potential to be great.What an honor it was to have Coach Rios stop by. We are forever indebted.
